Enough of what our writers and editors have to say, we sent reporters to find out what York students think of today’s issues
1. Is there more to the NUS than a discount card?
2. Should YUSU have more control of college events?
3. Do you think campus life really is getting duller?
4. Could Jesus Christ Superstar be considered offensive?
Name: Leon Leonida
College: Alcuin
Course: History of Art
Year: Final Year PhD
1. No. I’m going back to Italy so I guess I won’t have need of the NUS anymore.
2. No, that’s disgraceful. Campus events should be properly promoted and the students be given some freedom.
3. No, but I suppose we are going out to party now so it’s not for want of trying!
4. No, personally I’m an atheist so there’s no way that could ever offend me.
Name: Steve Bentley
College: James
Course: Electronics with Music Tech
Year: 2nd Year
1. Yes its good, though I’ve nothing to compare it with. I suppose they must be if our SU have to pay them money. They’ve organised marches, haven’t they.
2. Don’t know, depends which ones
3. Don’t live on campus so couldn’t really say
4. The advertising might possibly cause offence, but everyone’s entitled to their beliefs, and there’s far better things that campus religious organisations could campaign about.
Name: Michael Wellock
College: James
Course: Environmental Science
Year: 1st year
1. I don’t know of anything else that they do – so No!
2. No. It could be a slippery slope to the stamping out of all campus events
3. For me there is less work, and there’s less people about when I actually do venture onto campus!
4. As long as they’re not portraying Jesus Christ in a way that is not Christian then it’s not offensive. I haven’t seen it though so I couldn’t really say.
