Thomas’s, Museum Street

If you fancy a cheap meal then I highly recommend that you try Thomas’s. When I say cheap, I mean really cheap. Think about the same price range as McDonalds, but of pub lunch quality. At six pounds for two meals, you really can’t complain, especially when that wouldn’t even get you close to a Big Mac Meal down the road!

Let’s face it, student’s aren’t going to be looking for the quality of their meat pie or fish and chips when they’ve just had a hard day shopping and boozing… er, I mean, studying. The food is average quality, but the prices make it taste all the better, as I’m assuming, does the beer.

But enough of my gastronomic musings. As a pub, Thomas’s is more beer-orientated than anything else. Good if you like John Smiths. Bad if you don’t like beer. Of course, I can never resist the charm of an old-man-style pub, so I had to content myself with numerous gin-and-tonics. After a while, the crazy drawings of plump women who were dancing and also on motorbikes became decidedly amusing.

As for the crowd, don’t expect too much. Slightly chavvy, the punters tend to get younger the later in the night you decide to remain there. However, with Skysports at the ready if there’s rugby or football afoot, you might want to watch out for the rowdier type too.
