Kapadokya
Serving up a modern twist on traditional Turkish cuisine, Kapadokya opened last August. Hidden amongst tandoori restaurants and the daunting Jumbos, this small Turkish barbeque, on George Hudson Street has no competition as it is the only restaurant in York offering such cuisine.
Kapadokya retains its traditional Turkish roots by preparing dishes over a time-honoured open charcoal pit, which allows customers to view their food as it is prepared. Main courses at Kapadokya range from £8-13 and the menu offers a huge variety of meat and vegetarian dishes prepared in an array of flavours and spices. The menu features mostly lamb, in kebabs, grills, and casseroles.
The most enjoyable meal was the chef’s sampler for £5.95, which includes a bit of each of the starter options and is delicious. For those with more adventurous taste buds, the menu offers the Kapadokya special, a sweet dish in which cubes of chicken are cooked with almonds, apricot, cinnamon, honey and lemon.
Not only is the food unique and tantalizing to your taste buds, but the prompt and friendly service, coupled with the tradtional Turkish decor that is given a modern slant also help to create a pleasing atmosphere.
Finally, the restaurant offers an array of fresh fruit as a thank you to customers allowing one to cleanse their pallet after an amazing meal.
