Miserable conditions did not deter hundreds of York students from jumping into the spirit of the Rag Parade on Saturday.
Signaling the start of Rag Week, the parade, greeted by Lord Mayor Charles Hall, brought parts of the city centre to a standstill as 200 gathered in the steady rain outside Clifford’s Tower, the starting point for the marathon fund raising march through the city.
York Rag President, Ellie Murch, described the “fantastic colour and generosity” the marchers had brought to “an otherwise typically bleak York day.”
Murch estimated the money raised would exceed £1200. The cash will be donated to the Lord Mayor’s Fund which supports the MS Society and Sight Savers International.
