Sheridan awarded top blue belt

After facing opponents of more than three belts his senior, Farrell Sheridan of York Judo stormed to a top blue belt grade at the Manchester Regional Grading last Wednesday.

Chief Examiner Steve Purnell described the York squad as “displaying excellent style and aggression”, combining both orthodox and improvised techniques against strong competition; marked by Sheridan’s uchi mata against an opponent who outweighed him by a full 20kg.

Meanwhile other York fighters produced the goods with Varqa Abyaneh winning by an uncompromisng armlock, whilst Patrick Caldwell capitalised with an opportunistic sweep. Alwyn Spencer forced a draw from a higher graded opponent.
