Oscar’s has to be one of my favourite bars in York. The music is always good, the bar staff are always friendly and you can sit outside summer or winter, what more could you want? Well, we’ll have to pretend that you want more, otherwise this is going to be a very short review.
Oscar’s is a good bar to go to in the early evening as it serves food, so if you’ve had to dash out to keep up with your social schedule, when you’ve spent the whole day hard at work, then you’ll be relieved that you won’t have to contend with an unfashionably moany stomach all night. The only problem for the would be socialite is the calories. Though they call themselves a bistro, Oscar’s thankfully aren’t the salad crunching kind. There is a range of generous servings including grills, wraps and pasta to leave you as content as a pub roast. If you want a lighter bite for alcoholic munchies there are a range of starters and side orders, and the nouse team approves the chips.
Unfortunately the food and drink doesn’t come that cheap. However, you’ll be glad to know that they offer a £1.50 discount on main meals over a fiver and 75 pence off sandwhiches on presentation of NUS card. They also offer students there very own happy hours, as well as the usual Sunday and Monday 4pm to close and Tuesday and Friday from 5-7p.m, they indulge students who whip out their NUS with cheap driking on Sunday-Wednesday from 2.30p.m to closing and Thursday and Friday from 4p.m till 8p.m. I’m a fan of the large wine glasses, pretty reasonable at two pounds, You can also get Ambar beer for a pound.
Oscar’s, has the décor of a quirky pub, but cutting all the crap it’s a great place to get pissed.
