While the storm pushed off the women’s side in Manchester only three overs, its easterly movement towards York was sufficiently slow to give the men’s team the time to bowl out Coventry in the the Busa Vase semis for 155. The team had barely time to pick up a sandwich at the interval before the downpour anulled the afternoon’s effort.
The strength of the home team’s fielding was shown in fast bowler Stuart Leslie’s performance, taking four wickets for 17 runs, including two in the same over. This was complemented by an opportune run-out by Jimmy Arnold, and further wickets taken by Rice and Prafoon Mahmood.
The good showing by York has however been scrubbed off the board with the game being cancelled wholesale by the rain, and the match has been rescheduled for Thursday at Coventry’s ground. The gauntlet laid down by York against one of the stronger uni teams on Sunday has given them the confidence that a repeat performance is within reach, Leslie commented to nouse, "we really did well to limit them to what we did".
