treasurers

"I want to thank God, I want to thank Jesus … I want to thank Tom Connor!" were the words of Ozzy Atton on the announcement of his election success. He will be treasurer in partnership with James Alexander, with the aim of "making finance more fun and approachable." Whilst a dual occupation of the role is unprecedented, the pair believe they can work together and will present a "united front". Atton, a first-year Politics student, believes they are the embodiment of a more open union. "The SU's been rather cliquey in the past and we want to change that" he vowed. Second-year Alexander, who is studying Politics and Economic History, is a member of Finance Committee and stood for Educational Campaigns Officer last year. Both are Labour party members, but are convinced this will not cause any problems. "The treasurer is a non-partisan role," Atton told nouse. Alexander commented: "We want it to be a fair system. We will be fair to the Tories and fair to the Lib Dems". The pair based their campaign on addressing inconsistencies in the allocation of funding to societies and JCRCs. "We want to introduce a system of standardised spending," Alexander concluded.
