Mum’s the Word

YorkRAG is most famed for its cheesiness, something that new RAG President elect Ellie Murch has vowed to continue. However, she also plans to continue with the expansion of RAG events and the experimentation with a range of more diverse music events. Furthermore, she wants to increase the number of fund raising ‘Raids’ on other cities. However, despite wishing to maintain the "jokey" side of RAG, she is also determined to fight against the accusations of RAG being a clique. Her plans include holding a greater number of Open Meetings and generally being friendly without intimidating anyone with an overly extrovert RAG persona.

Ellie also has a great respect for current RAG President Roly Humphreys and believes he will be a hard act to follow and plans to continue with many of his ideas, such as involving more people by moving away from just cheese. She echoes his political stance, frankly admitting that union politics can degenerate into being "petty and absurd". She hopes that if she succeeds in increasing the friendliness of RAG, then the entire union will learn from it and will become more accessible by association. She certainly has a lot of support for her plans, and not just at uni. Even her mum sat up until 2 am to make sure that she had won, beaming “Well, they do say that politics begins at home!”
