Indie Kid Swings It
In a controversial evening in Derwent, Chris Jones emerged victorious as the next SU President and then announced his first ambition for the year: to get a toilet door fixed in Goodricke!
A bemused and shell-shocked Jones expressed his delight at winning the closely fought contest after defeating runner-up Richard Price in the third round head-to-head count. Commenting to nouse, the former Indie Society chair admitted: "I never entertained the prospect of winning". In what was arguably a bland campaign Jones steered clear of the controversy which courted other President hopefuls, an approach which proved fruitful as he picked up the votes of those candidates who were knocked out in the early rounds of voting. A fact recognised by present SU chief Tom Connor who observed "Chris really benefited from being the apolitical candidate".
However, the night of shocks meant Jones is heading a team by his own admission “isn’t exactly what I was expecting’. Priority number one like everyone else on campus is to answer the question: "Chris who?"- and find out who exactly his new Services Officer is.
