A lack of experience in organising campus events didn’t hinder enthusiastic first years Robbie Dale and Katrina Raymond as they beat last year’s Services candidate Benedict Ibbs to become the new Ents Officers: "After all, red tape can be learnt – and we’ve got experience of outside events instead," countered Katrina. Like most of this years’ Ents and Service candidates, live music is high on their list of priorities, but their ideas are centred on bringing bands from other Universities around the country rather than big name acts: "We need to build up our credibility in preparation for a venue on campus three" says Robbie. The main job in their term of office will be the Freshers’ Bash, and despite neither of them going to this years’, they have plenty of ideas, mostly based around finding out what students want, and cutting the cost right down. "The Roses Ball is running at £15 a ticket. I can’t see why we can’t match it" argued Katrina. However, the worry has to be that both the Ents officers and Services officer are decidedly lacking in Ents experience, and with Grad Ball and Fresh having a combined budget of over £100,000, there’s a lot at stake.
