Election time heralds a new era for the Students’ Union, and Term Two, 2003 draws to a close. But as exams and deadlines loom in the final term, spare a thought for the candidates and what this event meant for them. Weeks of campaigning culminated on the 7th of March with an agonising evening that anyone who has queued for an exam, or result must be able to relate to. But with the results in, and the initial celebrations and commiserations underway, we in the office were left wondering how some of the failed candidates must react to such a disappointment. Will they pick themselves up with dignity? Continue to fight on now, embittered? Or maybe throw in the towel and leave politics entirely?

Lets be honest, most of the losers seem more than a little self serving and irrelevant. And as for the winners, don’t get us started…

Despite the claims that an anti-clique Union has been selected we only have to look at the bitchy comments between those supposed to be working on the same Exec Team next year to know we’re in for another bunch of petty in-fighting and tit-for-tat. Doing little to improve the lives of ordinary students, but providing amusement for campus hacks and newsgroup dwellers.

Ok, ok, ok… So, that’s enough of that. We admit, we’re all a bit tired – university life can be pretty gruelling at times… nouse is away for the next eight weeks so your have to wait for your victory Roses special to see us again.
