communications officer

If dress is anything to go by, then new Communications Officer elect, Nathaniel Thwaites-McGowan, is made for the job. He definitely stood out from the crowd in a Jamiroquai-style hat that won a positive response in his election publicity. The second year Halifax student Nathaniel told nouse that he was intending to fully exploit all forms of campus media, sayingthat he would not hesitate to encourage his friends to get naked and urinate off Central Hall bridge into a lake dyed red as a publicity stunt for the Union. However stunts can go too far; Nathaniel is clear about the use of images of women in advertising, stating that "we don’t want women to be seen as objects". He knows the strong reactions that pornography can provoke, admitting "we used some porno pictures once and got into trouble".

Nathaniel supports JCR autonomy. He aims to keep in regular contact with JCRC Press and Publicity Officers by calling a fortnightly Promotions Committee but is determined to retain the right to remove publicity, on the grounds that the Union is ultimately responsible should anyone sue.
